A Mini Trip

Today we took a little trip to Letchworth State Park. A little over an hour away, it is an awesome park with a lot of things to do. Open year round the activities include: swimming, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, hiking, hot air balloon rides, and camping. It is known for its huge gorge. People (including my friend Jen) get married at a place in the park called Inspiration Point which has a spectacular view.

Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests.

On our way there as we drove through North Java, NY we saw the windmill farm. It was amazing to see the tall structures in the sky. Unfortunately I was dumb and didn't take any pictures of them. However check out these Flickr photos, someone else took, to see what they look like. We were hoping to hear the whooshing sound they emit while the blades spin through the air but the noise of driving was too loud and we really weren't close enough.

Jake did take a lot of photos of some of the gorgeous views we saw. We had a picnic, played in the playground, and checked out some waterfalls and scenery. The weather was beautiful and got as high as 86 degrees! Now that James is older it is fun taking him places and showing him new things. He is growing up so fast. It was so nice to get away for a bit and spend some time together as a family.

Here are a few snapshots: James and I standing at the top of one of the waterfalls, a shot of an old railroad bridge that crosses over the Genesee River and is still in use, and also a shot of our babe on the way home.
