"Mood" Ring

And the drama continues! No, I'm not crying anymore but James certainly has been miserable. He's waking up earlier, is fussy and disagreeable, is not napping, and he's chewing on his fingers. For about two weeks I've been telling him, "get your finger out of your mouth" and yesterday he was complaining about a "boo boo" and pointing in his mouth. So I think the culprit may be his 2 year molars. So the lack of sleep, combined with the tooth discomfort becomes a downward spiral...

While at the grocery store today, James started getting restless. He loves playing with the twist ties that you find in the produce or bakery section so I gave him one and shoved a bunch in my pocket thinking it would keep him entertained. *snicker* He wanted a "ring". So I twisted one around his finger. When he took it off his finger, it become misshapen, so he felt it was appropriate to start screaming, flailing his arms around, and trying to scratch his own face off. That my cue to head to check out. In the process of his meltdown he dropped it on the floor and REALLY started screaming. I gave him another. Repeat the previous scenario x 2.

If it is not his molars, I don't know what is wrong with him. We put dark blankets over his windows tonight hoping it will help with the sleep issue. It is getting lighter out, earlier in the morning. I'm not sure what to do next. Thankfully he has a pediatric appointment in 2 weeks. If he's not "normal" by then, maybe the doctor will have some advice.

You're not alone in dealing with mysterious behavior, although your dealings with James sound more frustrating. Lately, Seth tries to bite everyone's clothes. It wouldn't be so bad, except he sometimes misses and gets a little skin. So biting has become a problem. It's not a teething thing, either, b/c he's biting with his front teeth. A couple of times I've given him a pair of his jeans to bite on, and he seems happy. It's weird.

By the way, happy birthday!

Update on the biting: Now he sometimes licks my clothes instead of biting. Which is even weirder.
