Do as the Natives Do

Today we took a family trip to White Trash Wal-Mart. If you need clarification into what that means, you can catch up here.

During our jaunt around the store, it was determined that James needed a diaper change. I refuse to use the bathrooms there unless it is a DIRE EMERGENCY so I refused to even entertain the idea of changing my son in their germ incubator. So gross. So 50 bucks later as we headed to Jake's car (a little Elantra) one of us came up with the bright idea of a diaper change in the trunk.

It seemed logical to me. With Jamie's car seat in the middle of the backseat, there was no room for a diapie wipe without Jamie's bum hanging out the door. Jake on the other hand thought it was "trash" of us to do it to him. But why not? The trunk is so roomie. He suggested I take James back inside the store. No way! I guess standing back it probably looked funny. The car was unlocked, bags tossed into the back seat, trunk opened, and kid put inside. And at first James didn't want to lay down either. LOL It was like he thought we were going to close him in. People walking by could hear me saying, "No-get down! Lay down!"

And, it turns out it was a false alarm. The diaper was only wet and we just had a gassy toddler. We could have waited until we got home. The only other thing we could have done to complete the trip (which we did NOT) would have been to toss the diaper onto the ground next to our car and then drive off.

I thoroughly enjoyed your description of the Wal-marts in your area. I thought I'd classify the Wal-mart I shop at near school as a ghetto Wal-mart until you described the police at the door. Although, I did once see a young guy in a full-length leopard print coat and cane in there.

When my husband and I lived near Chicago we called our store the "ghetto" WalMart too. Once I even had a mouse run past my feet while I was waiting in the checkout. (We also shopped at the "hoochie mama" Target - also known as the "baby mama" Target. What's funny is that everyone knew what store we were talking about.)

First, thank you for your comment on my blog!

Second, I totally get what you're saying about the Wal-Mart. I go when I need to feel better about myself.

Third, you are very crafty. As someone who is not Crafty Spice, I am so jealous.

Love your blog!!
