The Internet Helps Me Circumvent the System

On ebay, I just bought the new 2008 Weight Watchers Food Companion book for $12.95 plus shipping. It seems like everyone is doing Weight Watchers. I'm hearing about all kinds of success, I've checked out their website a few times and I've seen the commercials. One of their deals right now is $65 for 3 months. I'm talking about online specials as I am not one for group meetings and talking about my successes and failures in front of a crowd of strangers. I just don't have the time either. But after pondering for a week or two about it the internet idea, I still couldn't committ to it.

There are several reasons I have in my mind. The main one being I can think of alot of other fun ways to spend $65 bucks. (Books or clothes for James, clothes for me, Starbucks! etc.) Does this mean I'm not seriously committed to lose weight? Maybe. Another reason not to hand over the cash. Also, if we finally, ever, get pregnant again, I don't think you're supposed to do WW while you're knocked up.

But, once again, all my answers could be found just with a few quick searches of the internet. On one website, I got a points calculator. You just punch in the info and it tells you the number of points. Somewhere I have this application for my PDA too. My ebay book purchase also comes with a "bonus gift: points tool" which I am hoping might be a points slider thing. On another website, I found out how many points I should allow myself per day and also read about Flex points for the week. And there are also a bazillion WW recipe sites and blogs. With all of this information at my finger tips, why do I need to pay for WW services? I don't think I need to track my points and meals online.

A few years ago, I did the South Beach Diet. Don't laugh! It really worked! All I did was buy the one book and go for it. I lost about 40 lbs in one year. It was tough but I was diligent. I also had the internet for help with new recipes and ideas. No meetings, no South Beach website registration or anything. Why aren't I doing it again? I've thought about it but the idea of going low carb is daunting. I'm interested in Weight Watcher's "eat foods you love" mantra. Oh-wait a minute, that's Nutri-System's tag line. Oh yes, "Stop Dieting-Start Living!" We'll see what happens. If it doesn't work I'm only out the cost of the book.

But if you lose a ton of weight and develop rock hard abs and toned biceps you won't get to be on a commercial if you don't sign up.

Doh! I knew I'd be screwed somehow.

I've never done WW but my mom has (and lost almost 100lbs) and my sister has done the online program. I think one of the keys to WW success is accountability. I use a website called peertrainer.com to keep myself accountable to friends. It's basically an online food journal. Good luck with your weight loss!

If you ever want the actual formula for traditional points, I have it. :) It's just barely simple enough for me to handle doing in my head.
