13 Works of Art I Like

My Bachelor's degree is in Fine Arts and later I got a teaching certificate and a Masters in Art Education. So I've seen a lot of art! These are some of the pieces that really made an impression on me. Since I've been a SAHM, it's been awhile since I've really looked at art. It was fun to look these up again.

1. July Hay, Thomas Hart Benton (1943) Egg tempera, methyl cellulose, and oil on Masonite
2. Madonna, Edvard Munch (1894-5) Oil on canvas

3. The Sunflower, Gustav Klimt (1906-7)
4. American Girl In Italy, Ruth Orkin (1951)

5. The Lady of the Shallot, John William Waterhouse, 1888
6. Cotton Fields, Sunflowers, Blackbirds and Quilting Bees, Faith Ringgold (1997) Acrylic on canvas; painted and pieced border

7. Horse #2-85, Deborah Butterfield (1985) tin, metal, rubber, wood
8. Cafe Terrace at Night, Vincent Van Gogh (1888) oil on canvas

9. Vendedora de Alcatraces, Diego Rivera (1938) oil on canvas
10. The Goldfish, Henri Matisse (1912) oil on canvas

11. Master Bedroom, Andrew Wyeth (1965) watercolor
12. Swing Landscape, Stuart Davis (1938) oil on canvas

13. The Grande Odalisque, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1814) oil on canvas

Ahhhh... just beautiful! I am a fan of Andrew Wyeth's work, and Matisse's, and Van Gogh's, Munch's, and Waterhouse's...

And wow, I'd never seen Klimt's "The Sunflower" -- gorgeous.

Thanks for a lovely TT!

Beautiful! You know, it's sad, but I do not know anything about art!

My seven year old loves to draw and paint. Maybe one day, he'll be the one to get me learning about it!

Lovely pictures. The only ones I ever saw before are the Van Gogh and the Waterhouse. But then again, I am not exactly an expert on art. ;o)

Great collection. I am not artistic but I always loved my college courses that dealt with art appreciation.

Loved your entry today! There were definitely some new ones out there that I didn't know about, and you know I carry a degree in Fine Arts as well. I did classes on the history of Photography, photography, african art, and romaniticism. I liked and I didn't like "Horse". The artist was creative with the legs of the horse, yet it looks sad to me. And as an american girl whose been in italy, I LOVE the Ruth Orkin photograph! John William Waterhouse is my favorite artist! Too many artists to mention!

Interesting TT! I'm sort of an artistic philistine so I so could not do this TT. Happy Thursday!

The Lady of Shalott always reminds me of Anne of Green Gables. :) I bet it was fun to look all those up. Thanks for a list that was a feast for the eyes.
