I just read that the Atkins company is filing for bankruptcy. I've never followed that diet, because it seemed too extreme and unhealthy...however I did lose 40 lbs two years ago using the South Beach Diet. It has a similar background as Atkins, you are limiting bad carbohydrates, but with this diet you are allowed to eat good carbs like some types of fruit, whole wheat breads and pastas, and such. It also calls for eating lean meats and low fat cheeses. Very heart healthy! It was the only thing that ever helped me lose weight. (I've done low fat diets, calorie counting, had a 6-8 month gym membership, walked daily)
